A KRAMPUSLAUF
A TRADITIONAL AUSTRIAN-STYLE PROCESSION TELLING THE FOLKLORE TALE OF KRAMPUS
WHAT IS KRAMPUSNACHT?
Krampusnacht, like Halloween, is a blend of folklore traditions and Christian influences. Krampusnacht is a Central European traditional festival celebrated on the evening of Dec. 5 and closely tied to the Feast of St. Nikolaus which is celebrated on Dec. 6th. The Krampus figure is partner to St. Nicholas who rewards the good children while Krampus is only concerned with punishing the bad children.
WHAT IS KRAMPUS VEREIN PINELLAS COUNTY?
Verein simply means ‘CLUB’ or ‘GROUP’ in German. We are part of the German American Friendship Society (GAFS) of Pinellas Park, FL. We are modeled after the family friendly European festivals mentioned above. Our Krampus do not intend to frighten children! They are meant as reminders of good behavior – Krampus is watching!
Bringing the tradition of Krampus to the holidays in the Tampa Bay area since 2024, we have been invited to various events and present our own weekend which consists of Krampusnacht, Krampus Market and St Nikolaus Festival/Christkindlmarket at the GAFS.
Our Krampus enjoy taking photos with you! The helpers you see with them explain who they are and accept donations from their generous fans!
